Bloomsburg Softball Splits Pair of Games
SALISBURY, NC--The Bloomsburg University softball team gained a split of its doubleheader with Catawba College on Wednesday with a 5-0 win in game two after falling in the opener 1-0.
In the nightcap, the Huskies got on the board in the top of the first inning when Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) doubled to lead off the game and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tiff Corliss (Lewsiburg/Mifflinburg). Bloomsburg made it 3-0 in the fifth when Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) hit a two-run homer and went in front 4-0 on a solo homer from Courtney Rhone (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) in the sixth.
Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) earned the victory pitching for the Huskies going the distance and striking out four.
In game one, the Huskies managed just one hit against Lindsay Ettinger in falling 1-0. The only run of the game came in the bottom of the first when Jessie Whitesides scored on a wind-blown single after reaching via a walk. Bloomsburg's only hit was a single by Tiff Corliss in the fifth inning.
With the victory in game two, Bloomsburg coach Jan Hutchinson moves to within six wins of becoming the NCAA Division II all-time leader in career softball wins. Hutchinson now has 1,006 for her career.
The Huskies, 3-6, play at Elizabeth City State on Thursday.
